Overview

The former residence of Wu Jingzi is located on He Wan street in Xianghe town, Quanjiao county, Chuzhou, Anhui province. Also known as the "Yiyuan," meaning "Garden of the Legacy," it is the ancestral home of the Wu family. The residence was originally built around 1668 by Wu Jingzi's great-grandfather, Wu Guo, who constructed it after passing the imperial examination and becoming a scholar. The residence was destroyed during the, and the current "Yiyuan" was rebuilt on the original site.

Architectural Style and Layout

The architectural complex consists of three courtyards with three entrances and is divided into eight exhibition areas: the East Courtyard of the Main House, the Middle Courtyard of the Main House, the West Courtyard of the Main House, the Folk Life Exhibition Area, the Ancestral Hall ("Yanling Hall"), the Book Presentation Pavilion, the Wenmu Mountain Study, and the West Garden Pavilion. The main building features a brick-and-wood structure, with green bricks, exposed brick walls, butterfly-shaped roof tiles, and a horse-head wall with a hard roof style.
